My clinical and supervision work is largely informed by humanistic, feminist, experiential, developmental, and psychodynamic/attachment theory. I am Internal Family Systems informed through the six-hour training. My research is focused on advancing perinatal, maternal, and parent mental health through a trauma-informed perspective. I work on projects focused on promoting trauma-informed ultrasound procedures, promoting access to and engagement with quality prenatal care, and supporting the parental mental health of families with children with complex medical needs.
In 2024, I received a VCU Quest grant to study the wellbeing and experiences of families with medically complex children and a grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance to support justice involved young adults. I also recently served as a clinical consultant for VCU’s Opioid Project ECHO, a telehealth initiative designed to support MAT providers across Virginia. I serve on the editorial boards of the Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision, the Journal of Counselor Practice, and the Virginia Counselors Journal. I have received the Outstanding Supervisor Award from the North Central Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (NCACES) as well as the Distinguished Faculty Award for Teaching (2018) and Award for Leadership Excellence (2024) from the College of Health Professions at VCU.
